Studies on a local criterion for crack initiation on a vulcanized filled elastomer

Abstract

Nowadays, the estimation of fatigue crack initiation of industrial parts presents growing economic interest. Usually, fatigue life predictions in rubber studies are given by a component of stress or strain tensor according to the number of cycles. This often involves difficulties due to the complexity of stress or strain states. Our paper proposes to establish a simple visco-hyperelastic model. These equations are, then, implemented in a Finite Elements code, which will give local information on stress and strain states and in particular the local intrinsic dissipation. Then, the maximum local intrinsic dissipation integrated over one cycle is proposed as fatigue criterion.
